Food, beer, & other goings on…

Look for the following recipes this week:
Borracho beans. When you eat tex-mex or latino food you probably always get the refried beans on the side, which is generally standard. You are wrong. Get the borracho beans. Or in some joints they have charro beans; similar.

Hummus. It’s been a while since I’ve made my own hummus. It’s actually pretty easy. What’s not easy, chewing up that many garbanzo beans to spit out and mix up…

I need to make shit on a shingle sometime. I’ve never made it. I mean, who doesn’t like shit on a shingle? Truthfully, it’s quite horrible, but I like saying shit on a shingle as I type out shit on a shingle. (best name ever) Also, I’ve got a home brewing kit I received for Xmas. I’ve yet to crack it open but I really need to.

There will be Seattle spam coming soon. No, not canned “meat” product bought in Seattle. Rather, I’m a week and half from my Pacific Northwest refresh time. I’ve made nearly an annual visit for a few years now. I find that I actually need it, even if for a short period. It’s a time and place where I can reset, recharge, and refresh my brain. I’ve got a theory on places like this, ala where you were born. Anyways, that is mine. For 8 days in May, you and me, Seattle…you and me.

I’ve been searching for good podcasts. I enjoy running to them as well as just background learning as I’m researching. I’ve always been fascinated with Russian history. History in general, but for some reason I love Russian history. Perhaps I grew up in a very precise few years where early on, it was still the U.S.S.R., still the “commie enemies”, Red Dawn, etc, etc. Then of course came the end of Soviet rule to where they are now. My thoughts are had I grown up in the 70s or earlier, I would have the innate fear and hatred of communist Russia as many Americans do/did. Born any later and Russia as we know it now would probably be all I’ve known and I wouldn’t think twice about it. Perhaps this is a bunch of nonsense… I just like Russian history, dude, get off my back! Regardless, I found the Russian Rulers Podcast. Links here. I started a bit before the October Revolution and am now around the Stalin era. I won’t go into it here, but it’s truly amazing how certain world events, seemingly unrelated, were and are indeed connected.

I conceived a brilliant science fiction idea. So much so, I’ve written down a brief synopsis in my journal to expand upon later. I don’t believe there’s anything like it. It crosses moral and ethical boundaries plus man vs machine vs alien life. That sounds stupid and lame and purposely ambiguous. Sorry, I simply cannot leak this gem to the two people who will make it this far on this post, dammit! More times than not, I have an idea, then after mulling it over, or writing it down, I attempt to identify the origin of that idea; ends up being similar to something I’ve read or some movie where subconsciously I’ve developed my own theme. I mean, my idea for Wookies vs Ewoks sounded pretty cool in my head but don’t think Mr. Lucas would be pleased. This is different, however. I need to research more. Nothing like more shenanigans to take me away from studying!
