NYC proposes ban on sale of oversized sodas,... →
Asinine. Here’s another article with different details. Look, I’m not going to deny the contribution soda has made to the health epidemic. I will not deny that something has to be done. This, however, is not the answer. To quickly break this down, it would not affect diet soda or so-called fruit beverages. Nor would it affect any establishment governed by “grocer’s”...

The politics of keeping Americans in the dark... →
Two things that should never, ever be associated with one another: politics and food. Some good info regarding the shadiness of the dirty handshake between regulating agencies and Big Food/Chem, i.e Monsanto.

A few thoughts on a few personal things:
I installed a XM radio in the 4Runner yesterday using Shoe Goo and Gorilla Tape. If you haven’t any of these two items in your house, you are wrong. There isn’t much that cannot be fixed with either. It’s actually a legit install, just with a bit of imagination is all. I’ve also rigged it so I can listen inside. An app called LineIn allows me to utilize just that, the audio...

Could you disappear? →
Please allow me to provoke some thought. I will rephrase. Could you evade surveillance, living within what would be considered normal everyday means, and without the use of false identification(s)? I mean by normal, of course, that you would not go “off the reservation”; escape to the Montana wilderness or the like. Where am I going with this…? I’ve just finished yet another documentary on...

Food Activism v1
Food Democracy Now A good place to start. Initially, this is the biggest hurdle we face when learning about our food in the U.S. The information is out there. You need to not only know what to look for but how to sift through the crap. We face an uphill battle. However, it helps to have a few “go-to” links you can count on for reliable data. What can you do. Read, learn, and pass on...

Americans find doing their own taxes simpler than... →
There you have it. I’d guess there are a few underlying reasons for this: One, the obvious and ironic, people are lazy. I’ve learned everything I know about diet and nutrition from reading, research, and personal experimentation (dietary changes). Plainly put, I care enough to learn. Two, misinformation is everywhere. Our government does nothing but perpetuate the downward health...

What's your "collateral damage"? →
I’ll ask you, whether it’s kids dying by gun to the head, axe murder, or bombs from the sky, what’s the goddamned difference? Oh yes, that’s right, one is a deplorable atrocity. The other, a celebrated victory for the spreading of freedom. “Collateral damage” as we like to put it. I’m so sick and fucking tired of hearing that term applied to presumably...

Join me for Beer Tuesday
Indeed. First up, Alaskan Amber. Next… There is a chili pepper inside this beer. Quite certain it will taste like ass. What you see in the background is today’s masterpiece (recipe to follow, perhaps). Homemade San Antonio Tejas style BBQ spicy beans. Anything not a bean you see, yeah, that’s bacon.

Skeptical Science →
Global Warming and Climate Change skepticism examined. “Getting skeptical about global warming skepticism.” A very good, and thorough, resource for those who still do not “believe” the science. While I tend to agree with many Libertarian values, this is one very important issue I most certainly do not see eye-to-eye with the status quo. There are many, of course, who...

Flapjacks Recipe
If you can call my instructions recipes, here goes: ~1 1/4 c. flour (used 1 whole wheat and 1/4 white) 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda >1/4 tsp. salt 1 c. almond milk 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla <1 T canola oil 1 T honey Wee bit of brown sugar (decided I didn’t want too much sugar and actually used stevia) No, the Dripping Springs vodka did not make it into the...

LSD, or World War Z? →
In all of my calculations, I failed to conclude the beginning of the zombie war caused by naked bums in Miami. Florida is whacked out, man! Here’s the accompanying Miami news video.

Some Saturdays are just done right
Two bottles of wine down. US v Scotland on now. If goes sour, game 7 Boston v Philly to check in on. Had some sushi, hummus, and random Asian slaw from Central Market. Legit.
Scotland!
Btw, the pipes pwn our crappy star spangled banner, 100x out of 100.

Spurs, boring? You're boring! →
Here’s yet another article referencing how “boring” the San Antonio Spurs are to watch. I’m a little bit tired of seeing it. This article, however, is a positive, which is nice but it fails to mention what I’d like it to: If you think the Spurs are boring to watch this season, you are either 1) not an actual basketball fan, or 2) an idiot, or 3) a bit of both. Yes, I...

Ethos Documentary →
I watched this movie last night on Netflix. I’ve not checked to see if it’s anywhere else, ala youtube or the like. However, by whichever means, I highly recommend checking it out. To briefly summarize, you have much more power as a consumer than you do through other means, such as voting, etc. The film highlights how we’ve gotten to this point, what the plausible ramifications...

Trailer Trash
It’s not too often I get pumped up for movies anymore. Mostly because the entire industry has become a stagnant pile of doodoo. Crappy remake after crappy remake or just unoriginal, unfunny, unscary, ungood ideas turned into multi-million-dollar sinkholes. That and the next dumbass superhero flick, which is all of the above crammed into 120 minutes. As a horror nerd I cannot even bring...

The mindboggling sum we actually spend on national... →
“National Security” - American fascism at it’s best. It’s amazing how badass we are at developing new and innovative ways to kill other human beings. Let’s be clear and break this down to a lower denominator here. Do you know we still spend nearly $20 billion on our nuclear weapons program? The F-35 program is one of biggest boondoggles ever. Hell, the entire fighter...

Brooks PureDrift →
Part of PureProject v2. I was excited to see this link come across my twitter scroll today. I’ve been a big fan of this Brooks line since day one and exclusively run in the PureFlow now. I did have some reservations with the PureGrit, which hopefully will be resolved. The PureDrift, however, is a new breed. I wondered last year when others would begin to hop on the “zero-drop”...

A few more Seattle pics
Finally going through some of the pics and chose a few to share. Some other guy called Jimi. Lighthouse at Discovery Park/Fort Lawton. My cousin makes an appearance. Olympic Mountains across the Sound. Space Needle as dawn approaches. I think this was from somewhere around Gasworks Park. There are a few more that exceed the tumblr 5MB limit; resize and post later.

Did someone say marathon?
Perhaps it is that time once again to formulate a plan. I like to read about different marathons and pretend I have complete autonomy to run any of them at any time. Ridiculous, I know, I’ll never run the Yellowknife Marathon! However, reality sets in and I can come up with a legit list which, naturally, changes often. Here are a few that I could conceivably run, ignoring the dates right...

A few thoughts on a few things:
May 19, 2012 Coin toss to decide a Lubbock, TX election. Not sure whether to love this or laugh, perhaps both. It’s a bit like those wacky laws we hear about like it’s illegal to tie up your wife outside of a courthouse on Wednesdays… a coin toss… The Dictator is banned in Tajikistan. I saw this story on a few sites, as if it’s big news. It was not too long ago we had...

NEW TATTOO POST!
Yes, it was indeed that time again! Work done, once again, by Matt at Wicked Ways Tattoos in San Antonio, TX. My last few hours went something like this: Break 1. Break 2. Final shots. This is taken from the Seal of Charleston (SC). It represents my time there, more specifically, where my daughter was born. Side note, Charleston is a great town I would love to visit as I haven’t been...

On a much better note, Jamie Oliver is doing good work here. Tomorrow is Food Revolution Day. Check it out. If nothing else, he’s bringing some much-needed awareness to a subject that is either ignored or unseen.

House OKs indefinite definition of terror suspects →
Here’s the first paragraph: “The House on Friday endorsed the indefinite detention without trial of terrorist suspects, even for U.S. citizens seized on American soil.” ”SUSPECTS” Wow. For those who do not know, anyone at anytime can be a suspect of anything. Think about it. Our government is so out of whack in every conceivable way. I do not have the motivation to...

Travel Notes
Return trip style.
While I certainly do not travel as much as the old days, I’ve successfully managed to escape the full-body-radiation-scan. Look at the outline of my bollocks all you want just find a way to do so sans x-ray penetration.
On that note I’ve also successfully bypassed security with weapons in tact and undetected: my fists of fury- deadly weapons in 49 states....

Travel Notes
And other thoughts in general.
Air travel used to be awesome. Perhaps that had more to do with being a kid, but I’ll blame it on the TSA.
Houston International still sucks.
Was asked to trade my seat with an old lady so she could sit near her friend. My seat, aisle. Her seat, middle. Told her to jog off! (kidding- I switched. It did tilt me for a minute though)
Being on a plane is...

USA Track & Field Coaching Cert
My third and final (for now) running/coaching certification, USATF Level 1 = done. Finally finished the test today. Not that it was difficult, rather, I had purposely put it off until summer. Now if school would post the final grades that would be pretty neat. Tattoo postponed until the 17th, unfortunately. Seattle, you + me = tomorrow.

The Truth about Nutrition Lables →
Part of knowing what you eat is learning to decipher the purposely ambiguous and/or deceptive labeling. A majority of the Big Food corp’s care about one thing, you buying their product. Whatever they can do to get that product off of the shelf and into your pantry, they will do. That includes literally lying and false advertising their crap. The only recourse you have as a consumer is to...

A few thoughts on a few things:
Tuesday, May 8, 2012 Ron Paul has won a few states… nice to see, but far too little far too late. Unfortunately for everyone, I don’t think his message will resonate throughout the mainstream GOP. Some bullshit recommendations from a bullshit “independent” agency regarding remedies to our obesity epidemic. Look, I know, anything is better than nothing but at this point...

Cinco de Mayo
Because I’m white and oblivious, I just realized it was 5 May. Visiting the great town of Fredericksburg tonight. Had a spectacular dinner at August E’s. Tonight, too much wine to worry! Sadly, I need it to dull the 3rd degree burns I suffered from last night’s graduation mass for my sister. “IT BURNS….IT BURNS!!!!” Kidding, I’m kidding… “La...

Thoughts on measuring success
This is a highly subjective topic. What determines a successful person, a successful life? I don’t know, personally. Quite frankly, I haven’t figured it out yet. I suspect not living a life in pursuit of happiness, rather, actually finding it before retirement age would be highly influential. This isn’t about me, however. It’s about Mom and Dad. Today, my little sister...

Review of Space Chronicles
By Neil deGrasse Tyson I’ve made it no secret that I love this guy. I dare someone to read this book or to listen to his podcast or watch any number of clips featuring Dr. Tyson and not get pumped up about science! He has a way of simultaneously communicating his enthusiasm regarding his discipline as well as his message that makes the information easy for anyone to digest. I don’t...

This is a great story and something as simple as this gives me a little bit of hope; just a little. Guess what you didn’t hear one thing about? Insurance. There are a handful of culprits I believe are the origin of what will eventually bring this country down, insurance is one of them. I’ve mentioned this before in a different capacity. Think about how ridiculous this industry has...

Summertime
Figuratively & literally. I finished my last final today for this semester. Unfortunately, it was one of those tests where it could be an A or could be an F. I’m quite certain the 4.0 is in jeopardy. It is what it is. Either I’m a glutton for punishment or I really want to check out what this whole heat stroke bidness is about. I’m referencing running in the afternoon. 85°...
