U.S.-Born Terror Boss Anwar al-Awlaki Killed in... →
Is anyone the least bit disturbed by this story? I’m sure a few here on the scroll are… I refuse to watch Fox News or the like but I gather they’re probably applauding this as a victory in the “War on Terror” even if under Pres. Obama’s watch.  My thoughts are these: In no way, shape, or form am I condoning what this clown did or didn’t do. I could give a...

thehonestpalate: There are some things that make me shake with anger.  A few: People on the subway who play music without headphones. Line cutters. All of the Twilight books, movies, merchandise and fandom. Health and government professionals who tell lies for their own personal benefit. The last one on the list is unforgivable, and unfortunately it happens constantly.  This article, Big...

Quick Buffalo Sabres Sched Look
Making my printout schedule, highlighting TV games. As of now there are 15 nationally aired TV games. Or at least 15 I should be able to see here. I suspect that may change if they’re playing well but we’ll see.  Once again, my main beef with the schedule… 18 back-to-back nights. As in 36 games played on consecutive days. I don’t know who sets the schedules, how that all...

5K in the hood
Decided to map out a 5K around the block a few times, or close to it. Timed out a 6:59/mi. I think at this point in my running career that is probably very near the best time I’ll post, relatively speaking. While I certainly haven’t been training for speed, I’m more than okay with my 8 minute miles. And if I can bust out a sub 7 once in a while, that’s a win! I feel like...

Weird Tuesday Today
Skipped running today but in retrospect I filled the day with a whole lotta nonsense. 1. Started off reading about gold investments. 2. I cleaned a very small section of gutters over my back porch. I can take about 15 minutes of anything related to yard work before it gets on my nerves. Thought about cleaning out this goofy fountain thing but that proved to be too much.  3. Re-taped a hockey...

College Football Picks - Week 5
Game to watch. Hello, New Mexico State at New Mexico! Battle of two suck-butt teams! Still have faith in Mississippi State, not sure why. Can’t pick Buffalo this week… Clemson at VT, I hope the Dabos pound them into the dirt! Week 4: 46-19 Overall: 221-73 Houston at UTEP South Florida at Pittsburgh Utah State at BYU Air Force at Navy Minnesota at Michigan Mississippi State at Georgia...

New Mexico fires football coach Mike Locksley →
How ridiculous are these coaching contracts? What an absolute joke this is. This guy has two 1-11 seasons, starts 0-4 this season losing to Sam Houston State this weekend, and rightly so they’ve had enough. Not without a $1.5M buyout! Unreal. I’m in total favor of capping coaching salaries. It’s gotten so far past ludicrous. Why not, there’s a finite number of coaching jobs...

A Whole Lot of Buffalove
Going around right now! I actually stopped caring about the NFL a few years back but good to see the Bills giving Tom Brady the bidness for once.  Sabres racking up Ws in the preseason… could this finally be the start of a Pittsburgh-esque era for Buffalo!

Thoughts on Top 25 after Week 4
1. LSU - As much as I hate it, they are fast, and good. 2. Oklahoma - Not this year, Johnny. 3. Alabama - Good, not great. Loose all credibility when you schedule Georgia Southern before Iron Bowl. Nice work Saban. 4. Boise State - Will go undefeated yet again, will be kept out of NC yet again. 5. Okie Light - They’ll do what they do and lose to some team they should pound. 6. Stanford - Bow...

WatchWatch
UWTV put this out tonight. Around this time, a couple years before is when I really started to get into college football as a kid. Of course, born up there, naturally I glommed onto the Huskies. It helped that they were rolling over fools at the time too! I mean, just look up Napoleon Kaufman… he was such a badass. Mario Bailey, Brunell, Hobert, Huard… Steve Emtman, just teams of...

Sorry for the uber-liberal site link. I like to read their perspectives too, albeit at times just as deranged as the right side. I do, however, follow some climate change news unlike many of the folks I follow. Either way, it’s gettin’ a little too crowded up in this piece. Suddenly Nunavut don’t seem so bad! Just keep the fire going and get some high-speed internet up there and...

Love the run!
Felt like keepin’ it in the hood today. Thought about some track running; don’t really feel like driving to school though. Not sure why I’ve yet to notice the ‘Publish’ button on RunningAHEAD. Ah well, here’s my hood. 8’/per mile today. I’ll take it.

Why I am FOR capital punishment
What? How can I support this? How can I not oppose a “government-sanctioned murder”? Let me preface and say that I don’t necessarily agree with our system, how we’ve handled it thus far, the list of capital offenses, or how we get to that end. What I do agree with is the principle that some people do not deserve to be living human beings. I’m okay with saying that,...

The Birth of American Imperialism - PLEASE READ! →
In The Costs of War (edited by John Denson), historian Joseph Stromberg referred to the Spanish-American War of 1898 as a “trial run” for the American empire. The war had nothing to do with national defense and was purely an act of imperialism on the part of the U.S. government, which gained control over Cuba, Puerto...

Thoughts on Troy Davis Case and Online Hypocracy
First I will admit my knowledge of the details surrounding this are very limited. I will reserve comment on the actual guilt or non-guilt of Mr. Davis, I just don’t know enough about it. I’m not, however, commenting on that. What I’ve noticed in front of me is a barrage of “support” for Davis via online sources. Tumblr for one has literally blown up. Of course,...

Furby banned from NSA →
A few folks are posting pics, one of which is Furby. I never owned one but someone close to me did…either my sister, my GF at the time, I don’t know, but I can distinctly remember some of the goofy-ass noises and gibberish, some I still find myself repeating because it’s frickin hilarious.  Either way a few years later, this story resurfaced. I can tell you with a 100% certainty,...

Muddy Trail Run
Noticed on yesterday’s run that the creek was actually somewhat of a creek and even still flooded in some parts due to the monsoon we had last week. Naturally, today I had to run through it instead of around it like yesterday. It was an eventful 50 min trail run. I had to navigate multiple alternative routes due to high water…in my dumber days would have just tooled right through it....

What about now? Statements like “We are going to be there to support you. And we are going to be unwavering in that. So I hope you will tell the people of Israel: Help is on the way,” make me shake in me boots! Wow, two Israel posts in one day is two too many! It seems as though I’m anti Israel. Not true. I am, however, anti UNWAVERING support to any nation. ANYONE! Here’s...

College Football Picks - Week 4
Still rolling over .500 a week; I’m good with that. Should be throwing some cash but whatever. The sched this week is a little lame, some folks starting league play, some their last creampuff game. Major NCAA Conference Shake-up
My predictions here are somewhat coming to a head. It was quickly announced yesterday Syracuse and Pitt’s application and acceptance into the Atlantic Coast Conference. On the surface this may not seem like a big deal but it’s actually huge. The Big East is a complete joke regarding football. Basketball, however, they were largely considered the best conference year in and year out. So...
