College Football Picks - Week 1
Here you go. Schedule format courtesy of lsufootball.net. Chalk for the most part but I’ve got a couple upsets in there. Northwestern to beat BC! And Buffalo baby, they’re gonna beat Pitt one of these years! JMU is gonna take down another D1 team at UNC. And oh yeah, ‘Bama, eff you for having Kent State on your schedule. What an embarrassment…should be ashamed. Week 0: 0-0...

US Open, Tennis Style
I’ll be honest, I get a little pumped up to watch grand slam tennis. I get even more pumped up to watch women’s grand slam tennis. Save for Schiavone, she is really hard on my eyeballs. That is mean, I know, but seriously…Navratilova redux…eeeeh. Sharapova on the other hand… tingly in mi pantalones. Always been a Roddick fan. It would be nice to see him pull out...

Today's Trail Run Times
I counted 148 total runners; 75 male and 73 female. I came in 7th in my 30-39 group and 21st overall out of the 148. Normally I could care less but coming from a lame duck like me, feelin’ pretty pumped about it. So a lesson to take for any folks unsure about their running abilities ~~ You can still stink and do pretty dang well in a race! Western States here I come.

Jalapeño del Sol 10K Trail Run
This happened this morning. Official time: 52:05 (8:23/mile) Official placement: Coming Soon! Being that it’s going to be 111 degrees today I thought it was going to be pretty nasty but at 0800 under the shade it was actually pretty decent. Certainly not Chuck Yeager land-speed but I can roll with that! Started out pretty slow. It was a narrow trail for the most part so it took the first...

Government psychiatrists: Military suicides caused... →
aheram:
This is beyond horrific. Government psychiatrists are actually suggesting fish oil as a simple fix to prevent military suicides:
This study, conducted by researchers from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, the National Institute of Alcohol and Alcohol Abuse, may help identify a simple fix for service members going into harm’s way: supplementation with the highly...

My therapist is free-what about yours?
I had a grand plan today mainly revolving around one thing: running the track. As a full-time student I’m able to utilize all of the athletic facilities, including a track and a few places to shower up. Early easy run, breakfast, bag packed, snack, roll. Get there about 35-40 minutes after. My plan included impressing some college girls with my ability to run in an oval many times at a...

Texas A&M tells Big 12 it will explore conference... →
It’s taken a wee bit longer than originally expected but I failed to recognize the legal mumbo jumbo that must be negotiated. This will change the landscape of college football. It wasn’t the beginning, that was Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, TCU. This, however, will be the change that blows up a BCS conference therefore blowing up the system, or at least the landscape as we know it.

Only in Buffalo... →
Walk of the living dead every day up there… now they’re robbing banks. Only natural I suppose. Hell, you walk around anywhere in the daytime you’d think you were on the set of ‘Cocoon’ back in the day. Kidding kinda of course but still funny.

Condensed Schedule Breakdown
For the Washington Huskies 2011 football season: Eastern Washington - Opening day win. W 49-7 Hawaii - Throwing the Rainbows a bone, well, by playing them at least. W 42-17 @ Nebraska - Split 2 with the corndogs last year. This one won’t be as ugly but not good. L 35-27 Cal - Supposed to be a better Bears team, not in Seattle. W 21-17 @ Utah - I don’t hear too many people talking Utes....

Fact #19
There was a time when I thought Grape Nuts was grape flavored. Growing up I can remember picking out a cereal each week or two, whatever the frequency Mom went to the store. It was our chance to kind of get what we wanted. At the time there were three of us so that was a big deal. I’m sure I didn’t want whatever crap my sister (sorry :) was eating and not sure what my bro liked. I...

More ESPN/texas longhorn Love Affair News
They’re not even hiding the gratuitous, egregious favoritism anymore. Well, maybe hiding just a little, it’s not the main ESPN.com page just yet. One school is getting the undue attention like texas is right now and it pains me to say it’s USC. I find this disgusting. Not because I hate both of those schools, rather I don’t believe it’s fair to single out, highlight...

Upgraded to 5.9! Let it be known, no tremors in Texas. We don’t do earthquakes down these parts. Shocker I got the news from Twitter before anywhere else.

Grad School Update
It starts tonight. Truth be told, I’m a little nervous, for the unknown and unexpected perhaps. Like a chick I’m contemplating the clothes I’ll wear as if it has any bearing on the fact that, regardless, I’m pretending to know the direction to my head from my ass. I can assure you all, I’m winging it here on in. I suppose my life unofficially changed when I resigned...

Iran 'jails US hikers for eight years for spying' →
While the story is on virtually every news site, I don’t know that it’s getting enough attention, at least by those that matter and who have those that have the power to do something about it. I’ve loosely followed this story now for going on two years; horrible all the way around. A couple of points: I believe these three were either incredibly naive or incredibly stupid, or a...

Grad School Orientation
“Attendance is expected”. Three most dreadful words~~ four and a half hours I will never get back.
I am wearing my sport coat though, which incidentally, I’m told is an “old man” term to call it. It’s a blazer she says. Blazers are trifling; sport coats are not. Figured arms full of tattoos may scare the nuns away! Or not, what do I know.

Reviews and crap - Brooks socks and Nathan bottle
I had to remedy my water bottle situation, and fast. I’ve been running with a random 20 oz bottle ala a Dasani bottle or the like. While it’s fine for a quick run, anything over a few miles it becomes cumbersome and a pain in the ass. Not to mention running for two minutes in 95+ degree Texas heat the mix of sweat and sunscreen, the bottle just gets nasty. Just about everywhere carries...

Perry says global warming is B.S. →
Well, kinda sorta. I love the arbitrary facts and numbers these clowns pull out of their bungs when it’s convenient. The “substantial number of scientists” and cost to the country is “billions if not trillions of dollars”. Is that a fact Govna? It’s going to become abundantly clear that Rick Perry is a buffoon.

Demon in my house?
A quick history to a lame ending. When I was ten years old I was allowed (Maa seriously!) to rent ‘The Exorcist’. I can remember this event vividly because it changed my life. It was 1989, we were in Buffalo. We had gone to Tops or Wegmans, wherever we rented movies, and I was renting a movie to stay at my aunt and uncle’s and watch while my family went to see fireworks as it was...

The 'U' in for a wild ride? →
Wow, we read months ago about a pending Yahoo Sports investigation that was going to break. I’ll go out on a limb and say this is it. If all true, is this the biggest show to ever hit college sports, say, ever? Maybe the point shaving back in the day??? SMU? I don’t think so… this may have them all beat. Will Miami get the death penalty? I’ve never seen a year long barrage...

Hillary Clinton: U.S. Diplomacy Is Stretched Thin... →
U.S. diplomacy = State Department + War Department. And the wrangling continues… fear of cuts in the name of protecting “our national security interests”. The last line says it well… we’ll just have to choose wisely where we intervene! Of course, no mention that our intervention is the root of many problems.

Mexican Cornbread Recipe
Occasionally I’ll mention my love for Mexican cornbread, or for the uninformed, cornbread with hot stuff and cheese. There are certainly a few variations depending on who’s abuela you talk to. I’ve decided to go organic here, or at least NO GMO foods added. Just gotta go by taste and look. I generally don’t follow recipes. Recipes are lame and a waste of my time....

Reviews and crap - The Unhealthy Truth (book)
How Our Food Is Making Us Sick and What We Can Do About It. Author: Robyn O’Brien If you read nothing else, read this: Below, a few thoughts of the book and it’s contents; very vague, I realize this. I would ask EVERYONE to at least look into what has happened and what is going on with our food system. It is probably the saddest realization I’ve ever come to and I’m not...

Reviews and crap - Beats Rhymes & Life
The Travel of A Tribe Called Quest. Directed by Michael Rapaport. I thought the film was great, not that I expected otherwise. I’ve always been a huge fan and it’s abundantly clear the director is as well by his portrayal of the disagreements that plagued the group. I think he did a good job showing all (both really) sides of the story and it ended well. Naturally they start out from...

What I’ve been screaming. Finally, they’ve found someone at the Empire to give another, A&M, perspective. Doug Gottlieb has generally shown a lot of respect to A&M through his bball coverage over the years; glad they got him to talk about the move. I fully expect the move to happen at this point. I think now it’s just going through the motions of formalities as well as...

Thoughts on Current Political Outlook
I wonder if anyone else out there watches, reads or listens to the ongoings in and around Washington and feels the same way I do. This includes the other night’s debate. I’ll admit I halfassedly paid attention, if for nothing else than to keep my sanity in check. I have mixed emotions of both anger and sadness. I’m angry at what I hear from all of the candidates, save Ron Paul,...

Sunscreen Reviews/Ratings →
Every runner, sans you lucky folk in the beautiful Pacific NW, knows the importance of legit sunscreen, or at least you should. If you’re like me, a razor-top, the necessity is magnified. If you’re more like me, who spent a whole lot of $ on tattoos all over the place it boils down to protecting my investment. Long explanation short, the link has a rating system based upon the...
