Jürgen Klinsmann named as coach of U.S. national... →
I like the hire. It’s probably the best the U.S.A. could do right now in my opinion. Klinsmann was a badass as a player and has proven to be a winner as a coach. I don’t follow Bundesliga or Bayern Munich so I’m honestly not sure why they let him go. I think this will be an overall good move for the Federation!

Oklahoma admits 2 major violations in men's hoops... →
BOOMER SOONER! Seriously, what are they doing down there in Norman! Keep it up and they’ll get the death penalty! Kinda not worth it for a mediocre hoops program of late.

Easy solution to a complex problem. →
Texas says $38 million to implement the new laws eh. Harsh as it sounds I’ve got a solution far cheaper: It’s a .308 Winchester round and it costs about $0.50 per. One of those to the head…very cheap indeed. Yeah, I said it.

Bob Bradley fired as coach of U.S. men's national... →
Interesting, but not really a surprise. When rumors circulate that players are throwing games to sack the coach, it’s probably inevitable (I don’t believe that they did for a second though). I do, however, question some of his coaching moves over the past couple years.

The Future of the Big 12 and the NCAA Super...
The Big 12 will remain as is, albeit tumultuous for the 2011 football season. I do, however, feel as though the days are numbered and we may know the eventual outcome before the season is complete. Here’s my take on what could happen as far as where the remaining 10 teams could end up: Baylor University - Mountain West Conference, so long as TCU remains. Otherwise, Conference USA for the...

My life, currently?
If you’re sitting in your dorm, or at home, or with Mom & Dad, or even in your own joint wondering how you’ll be in 5 or 10 years (I’m speculating by the average tumblr age I’ve noticed here), I’ll bet you won’t imagine ending up like what happened to me today.  I got a new vacuum today at the door, one I ordered last week. It’s nothing spectacular as...

Yet another reason why government spending will... →
This has become the mantra of every goon who where’s the stars at the top- to claim “very high risk” to the troops and Americans in general if forced to find money to cut. Here’s a figure for you…$698,000,000,000. That’s billion with a B and that’s what was allotted for defense in 2010. According to SIPRI, our defense budget has gone up significantly every...

Texas Universal Truths
Just a couple of observations: 1) There are a few types of people in this world, according to Texas. There are ‘Native Texans’, or those of you born in the Republic. These folks consider themselves supreme beings above all others, like Jewish folk biblically speaking I suppose. There are what I call ‘Transplant Texans’, like myself, who have spent much of their lives here....

Fact #17
I love maps. And I love data included in/on maps and countries.  Just as much, I love map schtick like “the world according to…”; I find those maps friggin’ hilarious!  Like a nerd I used to sit on the floor in our living room and read the ole 1980s World Book encyclopedia set we had. I’d spend far more time reading about some random city or country than anything...

Who motivates you? →
Athletically speaking… I’m sure everyone has different motivators for running, training, lifting, or just keeping in shape. I’ve got many and probably have mentioned them here from time to time. More recently, as I’m running 6 miles in just under 100 degree weather, sweat pouring off every square centimeter, knees aching, I’m slowly realizing I’m getting old....

Texas' Longhorn Network creating drama with Texas... →
More from (w)hor(e)n country!  While I primarily focus on the concerns of Texas A&M in relation to this boondoggle, I believe every college sports fan should be fired up by what’s going on down here. Indeed Mr. Dodds is correct, they are changing the landscape of college sports…they’re draining every last ounce of integrity right out of college athletics. Mark my words right...

Gratuitous Saturday!
Started off great with a couple hours of soccer. Then all pretty much downuphill depending on outlook I suppose. Quesadilla salad for lunch which was one of those salads that they justify calling it a salad due to lettuce placed on top of the very large cheese quesadilla. Home, nap, then Longhorn Cafe for dinner. One of the better burgers around, the jalapeño burger naturally! If that wasn’t...

Soccer
With some old dudes this morn. Feels good to throw the boots on after a while. Playing in the Tejas dirt though I can do without. Need to find a couple good teams to glom onto… TV note, need to find the Copa America final on tomorrow. Uruguay v Paraguay. Should be a good one. I really enjoyed following the Uruguay squad this past summer.

Media Outlet Differences
I stopped watching and reading most news from any US outlets a few years ago. It’s abundantly clear that not a one of the major networks provides an accurate “fair” depiction of anything at all other than their respective “team’s” viewpoint. Case in point.  There has just been two attacks near and in Oslo, Norway. While we won’t know the truth of the...

Trail Recap
7.22 And some other meaningful notes:  Every time I hit the trail it’s a new adventure. I’m getting to know a couple of the routes I’ve frequented but today’s route took me off somewhere else yet again. If you’re a novice roadrunner like myself, I highly recommend you check out a trail near you.  On the more familiar route I’ve run into a formidable resident. A...

Neighbors!
Okay, so I’m possibly the most introverted person in the country. I know this and I’m comfortable with it. What puts an extreme introvert out of his comfort zone? Being close to people who are extreme extroverts (most sales folks)! At least for me it does. I’m an adult so I can deal with it, not a big deal, really just another anecdote for the blog.  I’m not here to make a...

The Ultimate in College Sports Chicanery →
This is not the first time I’ve mentioned it nor will it be the last. I will never accept this type of bias in college sports. I have never witnessed this level of bias either. Yes, there are TV deals such as Notre Dame showing home football games on NBC and the Big Ten network which is not even comparable because it’s an entire league. I don’t watch it so I cannot speak of...

Unemployed and Loving it!
I am losing track of days and time in general. Not working and waiting for school to start, I find that by day’s end I have no idea which day of the week just passed. I thought it was Monday all day today. Go figure. I will have to find a job though. VA benes will get me through the necessities like new tattoos, breakfast tacos and Spurs tickets but will hardly be enough to keep the power...

Anonymous asked: Regarding the news item you shared from Pakistan, unfortunately the reporter has got it slightly mixed up. There is unfortunately a culture of not accepting children born outside of wedlock in Pakistan (and for that matter most of Asia) but killing usually follows in very young couples who panic and do something stupid and barbaric like this. There have been cases where there has been religious...

Still think U.S. foreign aid is a good idea? →
Naturally, babies born out of wedlock and female babies are worthless… why not hang them, burn them or better yet slice ‘em up with a knife. Pretty good country there, which happens to receive over a billion USD yearly in foreign aid.  All while we’re arguing which programs to cut here in the USA, for Americans, to relieve our current status.  Who’s steering this ship...

Fact #16
I pee in the shower.  There’s truly no reason to delve into this matter. It’s of no consequence. I just thought about it that there are many people who find it deplorable that a person would do such a thing. Whaddya want from me… I’m like a caveman over here. ***Side note: I pee in my own shower. Big sister, when you read in horror, I did not in fact pee in your guest...

Fact #15
I’ve disrespected my representation here; got a couple more ready. I like to listen to NPR.  A fact that’s not fondly accepted by many folks around me as conservatives hate everything media that doesn’t spew from FoxNews. Being that I’m not part of any team, I don’t care. I hate FoxNews just like I hate MSNBC. I enjoy NPR though. I generally can’t get good...

Trail Recap
7.19 I was able to find some new trail runners on the cheap. I went against my gut to go with Brooks Cascadia 6’s instead rolling with the new Saucony ProGrid Peregrine. They were about half the price as it turned out and got comparable, even better, reviews. Being that I’m new to Brooks coming from Saucony (as if it really matters, like I’m sponsored!) it was an easy choice.  I...

Bleh… Annoying country. I’ll say this part of Alabama isn’t as grody as I thought it would be. Entire state of Arkansas, take note. EDIT: I take it all back for all the trifling parts not near the Georgia border.

US Women's World Cup Finals
Here’s to delaying my ATL departure to watch US v Japan. I couldn’t stand being on some off interstate highway in Alabama or some place while the game was going on. So I’ll leave late, stay in Mobile for a late night before rollin’ back the Tejas!

96.3% Official
I’ve bought textbooks for my first grad semester. I suppose 100% is when my but is in a seat, but spending money on overpriced books is pretty dang close.  I spend way too much money at Abebooks.com I’ll admit. Way too cheap and way too easy. Someone should take the Amex away, seriously. I’ve realized I’m really wasting money on the school though when I’m clearly in...

Trail Runs
I found that the Greenway in my backyard is not only paved but running somewhat parallel is an unpaved trail back and forth along the pavement and along the creek.  Trail running > road running. Figuring I need some new trail kicks now… the Ravenna’s are great and all but need something a little more robust for the rocks and muck dried muck. I’m going to wear the mess outta...

US Women's World Cup Refs
Wow. I was able to watch the first half and the last 10 of the second and the whole OT. Watching the entire 2nd right now.  I absolutely cannot believe the shit calls I just witnessed. This referee should be banished for the remainder of the tournament. FIFA had better get there stuff in order and review this game. First, the red card call is the worst call I’ve seen in a very long time....

Movie added to top 5 ever?
Yes, ‘Citizen Kane’, ‘Casablanca’, ‘The Godfather’, and now ‘Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer’. This I saw today. Reclining seats were nice. While the action was compelling it was not enough to keep me through the entire moving picture show. The mom was kinda hot if it’s any consolation. And that’s where I am now, “the mom was...

What Constitutes a Monopoly?
Behold, my Time Warner, et. al. rant: First, let me state I understand what follows is a minor inconvenience in the big scheme of things. I know that cable/internet is not a necessity to live although dealing without it (at least fast WWW) is a complete struggle! So soon we forget what 10 years ago was like!!! More Jeopardy Schtick
Have you ever guessed the answer to the Final Jeopardy question only by hearing the category, before the question? I’ve done so twice. Generally, Trebek flashes the category then they go to commercial before the question is asked then you get the goofy music.  The first time, the category was ‘American Sports’. I answered lacrosse, knowing of course that Native Americans...

Able to get out for a quick 5 miles today. As it turns out I have an entrance to the North Salado Creek Greenway about two blocks from the house. It’s one of a few paved paths under the same name, or at least the same dried up creek. While I hate running on concrete, it’s an awesome path, albeit ~2.25 miles. Precisely what I’m hoping for more of in San Antonio.  With a little...
