It is our true policy to steer clear of entangling alliances with any portion of...
– George Washington (via combattant-de-la-liberte) One of my favorite GW quotes as it turns out.

Deep in the Heart of Texas
Indeed, finally made it late last night. For some reason I cannot determine, this trip was met with much more resistance than ones I’ve previously made. I’ve done the drive a few times, all in two days time. This time it was just a mental battle. The cat, the weather, the traffic, too much Katy Perry, 16 hours one day and 12 the next; sanity aside, we made it here in one piece. Of...

Road Trip Notes
v. 1
1) Being the cool (annoying) dad that I am, I say every song on crappy top 40 radio is Kesha!
2) There is a Subway on every single exit.
3) I just had my iPhone lightsaber app piped into the speakers. Loud. I just got Sithy with it.
4) Tennessee is way too long.

Freedom in the 50 States →
Interesting study from George Mason University. Where’s your state? Some surprises in their rankings… Vermont @ 30? “Live kinda free or die”? Some of the southern states where you’d think they’re more stringent, on everything, are ranked middle of the pack or better, where Washington is a pretty sad #40. Good nerd fodder right here!

Thoughts on NBA Draft:
Or the San Antonio Spurs draft day rather. I was certainly surprised to see the George Hill trade and a little disappointed. Hill is ready to be a full-time starter and being from Indiana I suppose it makes sense and probably ultimately what he wanted. I don’t know too much about Leonard other than from the few SDSt games I watched this past season. Maybe a bigger surprise was taking Cory...

Super Ultra Mega Beast Mode
This + some stupidity is what I did today. A day of ups and downs. Washer and dryer, up a flight of stairs from the cellar, through my ’30s era skinny kitchen and packed. Bed, dressers, coffee tables, end tables, lazy-boys, done. Alone. Quickly realized I’ve just about run out of room in the containers. A fourth, oh, only $960 more. Either that or there will be a silly curbside...

You are (not so) welcome...
…City of Alexandria. You’ve successfully bilked more cash outta me. $220 for two pieces of paper that state I can have two parking spots for the pods so I can pack up and move. Two spots which I would have regardless by asking a neighbor to move. Boondoggle of boondoggles!

Thoughts on today:
Version 6.21.11 1) Up at 7am, drive 400 miles home to VA from Buffalo, take back rental car, run home from Ron Reagan National Airport, Trader Joe’s, Lindemans Raspberry Frambois Lambic. This has been my day thus far. Non-stop baby, because this is how I roll. I’ll sleep when I’m dead. (or I’ll get really tired and pass out by 10pm) 2) I quickly became an addict of...

Thoughts on today:
Version 6.19.11 1) In my family, I am surrounded by amazing musicians. Somewhere I fell was thrown from that boat. I’ll climb my way back on… My cousin played tonight in Macaroons in Cheektowaga. In fact it’s still going. Had to roll to find and catch some Zs. 2) Buffalo, as much as I love you, the douchebaggery filling your bars is truly unbearable at times. And by the number...

The Buffalo Meal Plan
Thus far: Bison Dip, check. Pizza and wings, check. Teds hot dogs, check. Anderson’s, check. Chiavetta’s marinated steak, yeah steak not chicken. Tim Horton’s, check, check, check, check, check. Yet to come: Vizzi’s beef on wek. Duff’s. Mighty Taco. More pizza. More Ted’s. More Anderson’s. More Timmy’s. Possible fish fry if I’m feeling...

Franco’s on the way… It’s gonna be a show.

Funny thing...
…about using a new run tracker; I want to fill it with data. Really had no business running tonight but WTF not right. Flotrack took a dump when trying to create a new map for yesterday’s run so I found RunningAHEAD. Not too shabby. Tomorrow. Drive. Buffalo. Wings.

I'm fairly certain...
…I’ve seen ‘A Few Good Men’ oh, only about 2367 times. And I can still watch it every single time it’s on, like now. I’m just as certain I can recite the entire movie, Jack parts in Jack voice, naturally.

Thoughts on today:
Version 6.13.11 1) Today, my first Monday unemployed, the freedom I feel, at least by this point alone, is indescribable. 2) Some of that freedom is cancelled out by the tasks that lie ahead. I bought an appliance hand truck. The 700lb blicky. Kind of a weird purchase but something that will always be the best friend of any move. 3) The talking heads on ESPN are the biggest bunch of pussies EVER....

TEXAS A&M WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
NATIONAL CHAMPS, 3rd time in a row! Came down the last race, the 4x400. The men will come down to the same. The ladies was the best race I’ve ever seen. Now the men!

NCAA Track & Field Championships
Final day on CBS. Not looking too good for a 3-peat for Texas A&M men, 2nd but down by 20 right now to Florida State. There’s still plenty room to make up some points as they haven’t called it yet. The women are also in 2nd but much closer. They did recognize Coach Pat Henry though. Currently in 3rd, all-time, all sports, ever in NCAA titles with 31! Unreal!

Just realized...
…I just raised the unemployment rate just now. It still hasn’t quite sunk in yet. Maybe in a while, maybe tonight.

One of those days...
Indeed, today, is one of those days in life where I can imagine looking back on as a best day. It’s different for everyone. Maybe when you were married, maybe when you were divorced, kids born, sports moments, new dog, etc, etc. For me, I’ve had a very few days I’d consider best days. Today. My last official day as a government employee. I’m cutting ties for good. For...

Currently...
Streaming the NCAA Track & Field Championship (Gig ‘em Aggies!) and History Channel on the tele. That’s about the change real quick like to last night’s USA v Canada from the DVR. Side note, I’m a little pissed at the markup at Whole Foods. Please explain why I can get a large box of PB Puffins at Trader Joe’s for less than a small box at Whole Foods. WTF is that...

Runner or not...
I subscribe to Runner’s World along with a few other periodicals. I like magazines, what can I say. When I initially read the article ‘B.Q. or Die’ last month I didn’t really think anything of it. In fact I don’t really care about Boston so I may have just skimmed through it. In this month’s letters there are a couple folks who wrote with complaints about the...

The food you eat... or shouldn't eat rather. →
The best 18 minutes I will have spent today. Much on the same tone as the documentary ‘Food, Inc.’ which I highly recommend. No longer can we have the attitude, “well, it worked for us, why not our kids”. The saddest part of all of this is not only our ignorance as citizens but the arrogance of our government to allow the industry to get this far. You can make the argument...

Minor running revelation
I’ve figured out that I’m over the running gels. I find them rather disgusting actually. The first couple ones were tolerable but this weekend on a longer run I brought the one I had left from a while back, I believe it was a GU berry flavor gel. It wasn’t terribly hot out, maybe low 80’s but the only natural place to store the thing whilst running is the little tiny pocket...

Raw Milk Mania →
A black market for milk on the horizon. This is what our government is about now eh? Busting dancers in publicly owned places, arresting Amish people for selling milk… We have got to wake up to what is happening right before our eyes.

To lessen thy shyte:
There are a few alternative benefits to moving all of the time, some more obvious than others. One, which has become my favorite pastime of late, is getting rid of the excess crap we amass over time. I have the old 5-year rule, actually it’s more a 1 or 2 year rule but 5 sounds better. If you haven’t touch the thing in 5 years chances are you wont ever; time to get rid of it. There...

Thoughts on the American Dream...
“The Constitution only gives people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself.” -Benjamin Franklin
What does that even mean anymore? I think we’ve been bred, our parents rather, that it’s the typical ‘go to school, get good grades, go to college, get married, have babies, buy a house with a yard with the white picket fence in a subdivision of like houses...

I'm not sure...
… I’ve ever witnessed a population which disrespects the red light more than drivers here in Northern VA. Maybe it’s the high percentage of foreigners (literal foreigners) I don’t know. It’s a bit of a show.

US Women's National Team
All I have to say is, wow! Was Rooney’s bicycle goal this year? If not, this was the best goal I’ve seen in all of soccer in a long time! I love blasts all the way from Montana! The game was interesting, actually a reverse of the US MNT v Spain yesterday sans goals. They pretty much handled Mexico today and seemingly owned a large part of the possession time. They just couldn’t...
